Photography has always been important to me. I had a dark room when I was about 12 and I’ll never forget the magic of seeing an image appear on the paper when I put in in the developing fluid. (That’s a picture of me with the camera above, I can’t remember if it was my first camera but it was one of my first.) The dog is Bounce, our first family dog. He was really a great dog and always with us kids. He lived to be 21 years old and died when I was in college. Looking at his picture now brings back a lot of memories.

I generally have my camera at family events like holidays and birthdays and have documented my family quite well. The only regret I have is I didn’t take enough pictures. The picture of my Mon was taken with my cell phone in October 2011 on her birthday, I had forgot to pick up my camera before I went to her house. How could I have known that this was her last birthday, she died 11 months later from complications of surgery.

Besides taking pictures I scan old pictures and old negatives and so I have pictures of Mom from the time she was a little girl. I made a photo book “Memories of Mom” a 12×12 book with over 200 pictures and had it printed at Blurb. Now the memories can be shared with family and friends.  I think they will be even more important for Mom’s grand children and great grand children.

Many times over the years I have people ask me for pictures of their pet that they knew I had taken because they lost their pet to old age. It’s a good feeling to be able to give it to them.

I take pictures because I have to take pictures, not exactly sure why but I do. Of course there is always the challenge of getting that great shot that can go on the wall but I think there is more to it than that. Being able to share something is a big part of it for sure!

My main photography interest has been nature and wildlife and because of the camera I have gotten out and experienced things that I would not have seen. And, when I come home I have something to share.
